When we started preparing our adventure, we did not know what kind of kayak to chose as we had a lack of experience and especially on the sea. We decided to send an email to our sponsor and everything was all set. We will use two Prijon Grizzly which will be our means of transportation for 3000 km. They are unsinkable thanks to their two sealed boxes. In case that one sealed box get pierced, the second one will be able to maintain the kayak out of the sea. They are equipped by a rudder in order to facilitate the navigation with our heavy boats.
The Grizzly weighs 28 kg when it is empty and is 5m18 long without the rudder. It can contain about 170 kg between the kayaker and the material so it means that there is about a hundred kilos of capacity.
"Live to the rhythm of the water."
The safety on the sea
The safety equipment is first composed of a leash with a snap hook which enables us to hang on to the kayak. We also have a part of tow which will enable us to build a raft, if needed, a mirror signal, an unsinkable jacket, a light which goes off on contact with water.
We wear a dry suit Typhoon PS 300, which ensures to always dry during the navigation. In order to have a thermal comfort, we use polar onesies or our thermal underwears.
The accessories for the navigation are made of neoprene, such as gloves of 3 and 5mm thickness, a hood, or a hat. In addition to this material we have fleece sleeves, which keep us warm and out of the wind. In summer when When it will be warmer, we will wear lighter neoprene clothing.
The navigation (geographically) , will be done thanks to a compass, 600 maps at 1/50000E which covers the earth and sea topography.
We also have a GPS Garmin InReach Explorer, which has several functions such as compass, it can also send unlimited messages, publish on facebook, has a S.O.S function in case of danger. It is the most versatile object we have. Every 4 hours, we will be able to send GPS points so that people will be able to follow our adventure on the internet.
The paddles will be made in glass fiber with narrow blades, flexible enough in order to avoid tendinitis.
